NSW:Company fined over pregnant worker

A Chinese couple who ran a Sydney printing company have been fined more than 23-thousand
dollars after they fired a worker three months after she miscarried.

JIONGQUI YE was demoted and mistreated after she told the Wongta directors that she was pregnant.

She then lost the baby and was fired a few days before Christmas.

Justice DENNIS COWDROY says the 36-year-old suffered abusive action because of her
gender and pregnancy.

Mr COWDROY fined XIO YU ZHANG and her husband GIN GUO WANG $11,880 each and the directors
have also agreed to pay Ms YE two-thousand-200 dollars in compensation.
